Featured Superfood: Mushrooms

Some people love them, some hate them, but there’s no denying that the mushroom is a superfood. Containing very low sodium, cholesterol and fat these little treats can fill you up while staying healthy. Not “super” enough for you yet? Mushrooms are filled with even more health benefits including:

  • B Vitamins that help with the production of hormones, maintain healthy red blood cells, and promote healthy skin and digestive system.
  • Selenium, usually found in animal products, helps protect cells from damage and disease –good news for vegetarians!
  • Potassium which helps to maintain the health of nerves and muscles.
  • Beta-glucans that help boost the immune system.

The most popular mushroom in the United States is the white Button mushroom which makes up 90% of the Nation’s mushroom consumption. At Souplantation/Sweet Tomatoes we’re trying to increase mushroom intake by providing raw Button Mushrooms in our salad bar and, of course, our delicious Cream of Mushroom Soup available each Monday!

Do you love our Cream of Mushroom Soup? Do you make additions to your soup – like maybe adding in MORE mushrooms from the salad bar?
