Garden Fresh to Hold 6th Annual Farmers’ Summit
Farmers remain an integral part of its operations; Summit enhances relationships for a better farm-to-table supply chain
San Diego, Calif. – April 6, 2015 — Garden Fresh Restaurant Corp., the parent company of Sweet Tomatoes and Souplantation restaurants, announces its sixth annual farmers’ summit to be held in San Diego from April 6-8. Each year, Garden Fresh and its current and prospective farmers meet to create new and exciting ways to further their continuing commitment to fresh, wholesome food and industry–leading, farm-to-table produce. Select members of the Garden Fresh senior management team and over 20 farmers will attend.
“Our company is a pioneer in the farm-to-table process. We have been doing it for decades. So, I really enjoy getting together with our family farmers, both in their fields and at our summits, to strengthen our mutual commitments to providing the freshest possible produce for our guests,” said Garden Fresh CEO John Morberg. “Our meetings focus on finding new, industry-leading ways to improve our supply chain, and this year one of our focuses will be on even stronger sustainability opportunities.”
Garden Fresh employs their own strict standards that its farmers agree to in order to work with the restaurant company. Critical measures include food safety, sustainability and sourcing quality. The Farmer Summit will include Garden Fresh’s current agriculture suppliers, as well as prospective suppliers. The Summit includes group discussions, one on one meetings with the company’s leadership team and local Souplantation tours.
“It’s very unusual for farmers to actually meet face to face with restaurant company management. So, we really enjoy getting together with the Garden Fresh team who have been leading the industry in fresh produce for years,” said Gary Crouch of Mountain Meadows, a local San Diego farmer who grows millions of mushrooms for Garden Fresh. “I enjoy being an integral part of the Garden Fresh team, and am excited to join them for the Farmer Summit.”
The Farmer Summit complements the recent launch of Garden Fresh’s ‘Discover Fresh’ campaign, a brand revitalization movement. The summit comes on the heels of an announcement to include Farm Teams in restaurants throughout the San Diego market. The Farm Teams are brand ambassadors who interact with guests, speaking about Garden Fresh’s relationships with its farmers, where their food is coming from, as well as promoting Club Veg.
