Garden Fresh Turns Up the Heat with Flavor Fiesta

Guests will enjoy real garlic, jalapeños and lime juice in menu items featured in May

San Diego, Calif. – May 5, 2015 – Garden Fresh Restaurant Corp., parent company of Sweet Tomatoes and Souplantation restaurants, spices up its menu with a Flavor Fiesta for the month of May. Inspired by Cinco de Mayo, Souplantation and Sweet Tomatoes restaurants will feature Mexican-inspired dishes at the salad bar, the soup bar, and the bakery.

The new menu kicks off with Albondigas Locas, a traditional Mexican meatball soup with fresh vegetables and herbs. On the salad bar guests will find Zesty Turkey Taco Salad, Chipotle, Lime & Cilantro Quinoa, and Pepper Verde Potato Salad. For the month of May, Sweet Tomatoes and Souplantation is also serving their Tomatillo Focaccia, loaded with tangy Mexican tomatillos.

“With the Flavor Fiesta menu, you’ll find dishes packed with spice and zest, and throughout these recipes you’ll find two common ingredients: garlic and lime,” said Julie Derry, Chief Marketing Officer for Garden Fresh. “By working closely with our local garlic and lime farmers, we can ensure our guests get high-quality products that burst with flavor.”

While much of the U.S. gets its garlic from China, which can be bitter, Sweet Tomatoes and Souplantation prefer the savory flavors of garlic grown in the Mediterranean climate of California where The Garlic Company is located.  The Garlic Company provides Sweet Tomatoes and Souplantation with 1.3 million garlic heads per year.

Sweet Tomatoes and Souplantation’s lime juice comes from Perricone Farms, a third generation family-owned grower out of Newport Beach, California. Perricone Farms uses whole limes for juicing, adding essential lime oil from the peels into the juice, enhancing the flavor.

“Both of these farms are concerned with reducing waste and increasing sustainability, which is important to us when creating relationships with growers,” said John Morberg, CEO of Garden Fresh Restaurant Corp. “Garlic is naturally a low-water crop, while the lime rinds are used as animal feed.”
