There’s A Lot To Feel Green About When Dining at Souplantation/Sweet Tomatoes

There’s a lot to feel good about this Earth Day! Our Gluten-Free Coconut Muffins are back for a limited time and spring superfoods are front and center in some of our newest recipes! Most importantly, Souplantation and Sweet Tomatoes Restaurants aim to continually enhance our green efforts by activities such as:

  • Offering a menu that includes more than 30% vegetarian entrées – every meat-free meal served has the same climate-change impact as not driving 10 miles
  • Recycling enough glass, aluminum, plastic, cardboard and paper to save 12.5 million pounds of garbage from landfills each year
  • Using Energy Star Ice Machines, which saves the equivalent amount of energy as keeping 91 cars off the road
  • Installing high-efficiency spray valves that conserve 7.6 million gallons of water per year (enough for 300,000 showers!)
  • Implementing energy efficient lighting that saves the same amount of electricity as it takes to power 480 homes each year
  • Saving energy by using strip curtains in all of our walk-in coolers to avoid carbon emissions equivalent to planting 21,000 trees and letting them grow for a decade

Help us continue our effort to stay green by doing your part. Research has shown that some restaurants report up to 25% of food orders are wasted, so be mindful of how much food you put on your plate.

  1. Coconut Muffins are delicious ! Now if they could also be Sugar-Free, Dairy-Free, and artificial sweetener-free. I appreciate your efforts to accommodate special dietary needs.

  2. Hello, I left a suggestion elsewhere, but for us Snowbirds, who love the restaurant, I would like to request that if they are going to be temporary again, could they be from Oct to end of April, as most of us have already left the area, and I kept asking for them for about a month or so before we left Florida. They were a nice addition to my ice cream, since I can’t eat the cakes or cookies. Thanks so much. Enjoyed them a lot.

  3. While you are being green, are you also being healthy? What is your policy regarding salt content in your soups and other prepared food? Many of your patrons, at least here in Boca, are seniors, to whom limiting salt intake is particularly important. As it is for us all!

    Thanks,

  4. First, I have come to really enjoy your restaurant. As food becomes increasingly “dangerous” to eat, there are less an less restaurants that offer good, healthy, quality food, so I greatly appreciate your menu and the dining experience. Another concern, however, that is becoming center stage, is how even vegetables are raised. I realize that organic is all the rage, and I buy it whenever possible, mostly because of the GMO problems and the insecticide and other chemicals that are claiming to be “safe”, but are now being exposed as quite harmful, much of which is run by Mansanto, etc. What are your policies on determining vegetable selection? Is anything organic? If not, how do you protect your customers from harmful chemicals that may have been used as insecticides, etc.? I mean, it’s great that you offer vegetables galore for our enjoyment and health, but if they are not free of these chemicals and processing liquids (i.e. certain vegetables are processed and washed with bleach to ensure no bacteria, but it is harmful to the consumer) it really is not healthful in the long run.

    1. Hi Philip – Thank you for the kind words and for liking our restaurant. In general, all of our fresh produce is GMO free. However, we currently don’t promote or guarantee it at this time, as we occasionally must make vendor substitutions based on product availability and seasonality. We can tell you that we always strive to provide the highest quality of produce and ingredients in our restaurants. In fact, we ask all our growers and suppliers to provide us with a complete specification sheet for every ingredient that we purchase to ensure that we are always giving our guests the freshest and safest food possible. I hope that helps to answer your question. Thanks and have a great day.
