You Say Tomato, We Say Superfood
However you pronounce it, we think tomatoes are pretty super. Tomatoes make appearances in the tomato sauce on some of our focaccias, in our salad bar, and are highlighted this month in our Classic Creamy Tomato Soup.
Tomatoes are loaded with antioxidants, including lycopene, which makes your skin look younger and keeps your heart healthy. In fact, a Harvard study found that women with the most lycopene in their blood reduced their risk of a heart attack by 34%.
Along with possibly helping ward off certain cancers, heart attacks and thrombosis, tomatoes are said to:
- Help skin look younger
- Reduce inflammation
- Prevent certain age related diseases
To celebrate the return of our Classic Creamy Tomato Soup we are reminiscing about how we used to enjoy tomato soup as kids. Did you used to add cheese to your tomato soup or dip in grilled cheese?
As a kid I loved Cambell’s Tomato Soup with cheese, until I developed heart burn. The doctor said that there was too much acid in the tomatoes that was giving me the heart burn. I haven’t had tomato soup ever since, that was 66 years ago!
I do enjoy the other many soups you have to offer. I am a regular at the Brentwood Branch in Los Angeles! A nice clean restaurant, now, with excellent management. As a senior I take advantage of the 2-5pm weekday price. Thank you for that consideration.

Unfortunately, Sweet Tomatoes doesn’t have actual tomatoes on their line anymore (at least in my area). They only have the grape tomatoes, a poor substitute. I find this odd, considering the name of the restaurant. And frustrating. I’m not sure if it’s about cost or availability or what, but it seems if my local grocery story can get beautiful red tomatoes of multiple varieties … Sweet Tomatoes should be able to as well.
